In 16 May 1956, Report of The Education Committee a.k.a Razak Report was acknowledged by the Malaysian Federal Legislative Law which became the basis of our education system. Since then, 16th May is celebrated as a Teachers Day.
Teachers Day is celebrated in appreciation of teachers' contribution and sacrifice in educating our school children into becoming knowledgeable people. Thus, teachers are considered as having a very important role and well respected in the community.
Nowadays, most people are avoiding this profession. Upon receiving SPM results, students rushed to apply for public & private universities and college. Once graduated, they embarked into all type of professions. Some are lucky to get the posts that they are really into with their expected salary and secured company, while others have to bear without.
There comes the KPLI which meant for graduates in any fields to be a teacher. Like it or not, that's the only option that they have. Thousands of people suddenly embarked into teaching profession with no initial interest in teaching be with educating the people. Teaching has become as just another job with a secured month-end government-rate salary. "And that is good enough as long as we got a job".
Should they really, really interested into teaching, why wait until after graduated in non-teaching field...why don't they go straight into teaching college upon finishing high school..
Since it is a job, there are Job Description to be practiced. Working hours, Teaching hours, co-curricular activities and so on are exactly as per agreed-upon instructions and syllabus given - minimum please. Well, they do willing to do more if it comes along with the extra paycheck - hey, they are employees okay. Should they feel like being avoided, here comes the Union to fight the extra for them. And there goes the contribution and sacrifice done by teachers.
Send them an employment offer letter with RM5k basic salary on it, i bet ALL schools will have no teachers no more. Then, teachers are really into not only teaching but educating the people and getting them prepared with solid knowledge and exposure for the real world ahead.
Now. It is just another job. The last resort. And this job is being celebrated.
Are teachers emotionally stable enough to accept this fact ~
